REALTOR® CODE OF ETHICS & FAIR HOUSING

REALTOR® members need to complete a REALTOR® Code of Ethics course every three years on a specific three-year cycle. We are currently in the 8th Triennial Cycle which runs from 1/1/2025 – 12/31/2027.

Effective 1/1/2022, only REALTOR ® Code of Ethics classes offered by your local Association, the State Association, the National Association or through applied schools will be accepted for this membership obligation.  The schools with applied classes are CE Shop, Keep Me Certified, McKissock, Real Estate Nexus Training Academy, RI School of Real Estate, The Training Cove, OnlineEd

Options to complete the Code of Ethics include:

Online with the Rhode Island Association of REALTORS®
Zoom & In-Person Classes with the Greater Providence Board of REALTORS®
Online with The CE Shop – Select any of the classes marked “NAR Ethics”
– One of the applied schools named above

REALTOR® Commitment to Excellence (C2EX) – Members who complete the C2EX endorsement  for the first time during the 8th Triennial, will satisfy the Code of Ethics training requirement.

Effective 1/1/25, the REALTOR® Association now requires a 2-hour fair housing training class as a condition of membership.

Existing REALTOR® members will have to complete continuing fair housing training between 1/1/25 – 12/31/27 and submit their certificate to their local Board for review and recording.  GPBOR is not automatically notified when a member completes this class.

New members have 120 days to complete a fair housing orientation from the date they join.

Want to learn more the new requirement?  Click here.  The policy is based on a recommendation created by a work group composed of members of the Fair Housing Committee, Professional Development Committee, Association Executives Committee, and Membership Policy and Board Jurisdiction Committee and approved by the NAR Board of Directors in May 2023.

Completion of the new Fairhaven 2.0 (no charge), which launched 1/14, can be applied to this membership requirement as well as NAR’s At Home with Diversity Certification (online or in a classroom) and NAR’s Bias Override:  Overcoming Barriers to Fair Housing.  If you complete some other 2-hour course in order to renew your real estate license in 2025, 2026 or 2027, the course must meet NAR’s learning objectives.
