(Providence, Rhode Island) – The Greater Providence Board of REALTORS® (GPBOR) announces its 2022 Diversity Scholarship Program application period is now open. Minority and other underrepresented individuals who are residents of the State of Rhode Island, have graduated from high school or its equivalent, and who are serious about launching their career in real estate are encouraged to apply. Three annual scholarship awards of up to $1,500 per person will be awarded on a limited rolling basis through November 15, 2022. Recipients of these awards may use their scholarships to fund Rhode Island pre-licensing classes and real estate application and license fees. Applications can be downloaded at www.gpbor.realtor
“According to a February 2021 study by the National Association of REALTORS®, minorities still lag behind in homeownership rates at a rate of nearly 30% less for Black Americans than for white Americans,” said Michael Pereira, 2022 GPBOR President. “These scholarship funds were created to help bridge that gap.”
“As REALTORS® we stand committed at a local, state, and national level to increasing diversity and equality in our industry, and it is important to us that the professionals joining our field should better reflect the clients we serve.”
